Walkerville, Ontario History
Founded by Hiram Walker in 1858, began as a model community for Hiram Walker distillery workers, home of Canadian Club Whisky. It was one of the five border cities until it was amalgamated with Windsor in 1935. Walkerville was developed outwards from the distillery and included buildings designed by Albert Kahn.

This includes Willistead Manor built in 1906 by renowned architect Albert Kahn. It was the home of Hiram Walker's second son, Edward Chandler Walker. Upon Walkerville’s eventual amalgamation with Windsor, the Manor became the heritage-protected property of the city. It is currently an art gallery and an event venue.
On the grounds of Willistead Manor is Willistead Park, which hosts the Rotary Club of Windsor 1918's annual Art in the Park and draws in residents and guests from all over the county, including Detroiters.
It is also home to the Devonshire Manor, aka Low-Martin House, where Canada's 22nd Prime Minister Paul Martin spent his childhood. Walkerville Collegiate Institute is the local secondary school and boasts the area's only fine arts program for public school students. It has a rich history of serving Canada in both world wars and highlighting exceptional musicals and plays.
